Our client is a publicly owned manufacturer of food products. The company has been in operation for more than 10 years and employs above 30 people.
Responsibilities
1) Manage R&D activities (both internal and external) related to existing ingredient portfolio and development including commercialization of new ingredients
2) Provide advice and direction on matters related to global regulatory, labeling and claims legislation
3) Lead QA/QC efforts and set product specifications for finished ingredient products
4) Direct all technical aspects for commercializing of new products, from concept/product development and applications research, through manufacturing scale-up and product specifications
5) Oversee development and direct research, improve current products and generate ideas for new products and services
6) Conceptualize and draft applications for intellectual property protection, including but not limited to patents
7) Review and use existing customer insights and market research data as aid in innovation
8) Create, evaluate and analyze proposals for new business ideas, new lines of business and products
9) Present product ideas to senior management and seek approval for execution and launch
10) Serve as member of strategic planning committee and the technology board
11) Expand and strengthen current core technology and introduce new technology through proprietary development and external alliances
12) Identify, build technology alliances and facilitate transfer of knowledge and manufacturing requirements to third-party affiliates for market expansion
13) Advise the President in the areas of product design, core science, manufacturing and regulatory, quality and food safety compliance
14) Work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Applications and Customer Analytics
15) Build on previous ideas and create new strategies whether internal or external
16) Assist in providing technical information and guidance externally (customers, distributors, co-packers) and internally
17) Advise product application development activities
18) Serve as technology and manufacturing advisor to the President and the board of directors
19) Manage the company’s responses to all food-related regulatory compliance issues (domestically and internationally)
20) Ensure that existing and new ingredients meet regulatory and labeling requirements of target countries for commercialization
Requirements
1) Ph.D. in Food Science or Food/Chemical Engineering (Cereal Chemistry background and MBA preferred)
2) 15+ years of food/food ingredient industry experience (fiber foods preferred)
3) Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with 2 years in QC/QA management
4) Experience in generating and testing hypotheses as well as evaluating new product/market ideas
5) In-depth knowledge of food product and technology development, strategic/analytic methods and processing technology
6) Technical knowledge of quality systems, food safety and environmental management in food processing
7) Understanding of QA and safety processes such as HAACP, regulatory audits, SOP, food safety audits, etc. as well as federal regulations and government agencies (FDA, USDA)
8) Familiarity of industry networks, with core and allied technology and technical systems
9) Strong management experience with organizational and administrative skills
10) Strategic thinker with superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
11) Creative thinker with an open mind to learn and explore new areas and opportunities
