Our client is a privately owned producer of fresh fruits and vegetables. The company has been in operation for more than 25 years and has annual sales of over $500M.
Responsibilities
1) Handle food safety, GMP practices, food quality, development of the laboratory and laboratory personnel within the facility
2) Create, where necessary, and maintain all laboratory functions and quality management systems
3) Improve laboratory and production efficiencies
4) Be involved and accountable for securing all aspects of food safety from ingredients received to the production and shipment of food from the facility
5) Ensure HACCP and GMPs are met
6) Determine the root cause of instances of food safety deficiencies and resolve as quickly as possible
7) Determine the triggers that interfere with food safety and develop predictors that eliminate the risk are key to maintaining food safety
8) Act as the primary facility contact for USDA and FDA personnel to resolve issues and maintain constructive relationships
9) Keep all regulatory documentation organized, accurate and available
10) Achieve a passing score on customer, third party and regulatory audits by maintaining constant audit readiness
11) Ensure that corrective actions of all deficiencies identified by an audit are completed in a timely manner
12) Ensure that food quality is consistently met
13) Identify process locations and attributes that can be used to predict quality and use process attributes to maintain consistency and reduce the need for finished product testing
14) Identify finished product quality attributes with targets and ranges and set while taking into account process capability
15) Support specification changes and published test procedures in a timely manner
16) Challenge quality specification and production capability
17) Identify and resolve issues arriving from customer complaints
18) Identify the root cause of customer complaints and resolve these within the timeframe of the Customer Complaint policy
19) Ensure the ongoing coaching, development and training of the Laboratory staff that supports all plant operations
20) Develop QA laboratory and personnel to maintaining Food Safety/GMP, food quality and the longevity of the QA Department
21) Collect data needed to make food safety and food quality decisions and present them in a well thought out, correct, complete manner that facilitates evaluation and conclusion
22) Store lab data in the prescribed corporate database
23) Set up routine microbiological testing and train personnel need to achieve accurate and consistent microbiological results
24) Keep abreast of laboratory and production processes and actively engage in evaluating processes within the facility to remove waste and reduce cost
Requirements
1) Bachelor of Science from a 4 year college or university or 2 – 5 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2) HACCP Certification
3) Good knowledge of Accounting, Database, Human Resource systems, Internet, Inventory, Manufacturing, Project Management, Spreadsheet, Word Processing and Product Lifecycle software
4) Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
5) Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
6) Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
7) Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors
