Regional Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager. Orange County, CA.
National public traded insurance carrier has this exciting new opportunity for a top professional commercial underwriting manager.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Oversight and coordination of underwriting staff of various skill levels including ongoing training, mentoring, and development of staff.
• Market knowledge and technical skills to effectively manage a broad range of products and premium sizes including property, liability and workers’ compensation.
• Ability and desire to take a hands-on approach to both management of the underwriting process and also handling more complex accounts, as required, including referrals to Home Office.
• Reviewing profitability of Region by line of business, by agency, and other criteria using effective metrics to measure production against business plan.
• Managing underwriting staff’s production results and conformity with underwriting standards through audits and reviews of underwriting files.
• Conducting market research and territorial analysis.
• Maintaining existing agency relationships and developing new relationships with producers who fit underwriting and production criteria.
• Establishing staffing plans with RVP and managing workload of underwriters to maintain high level of customer service and quality production.
• Working with producers to review profitability and production standards, developing relationships, presenting products, training on processes and guidelines, etc.
• Working with Home Office Underwriting and RVP to develop Regional underwriting guidelines and production goals.
• Responsible for communicating, as frequently as needed, the problems or opportunities within the production territory to the Profit Center Manager and Business Development including but not limited to: production, efficiency, underwriting issues, rating/quoting and bind authority issues.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Demonstrated communication, team-building, recruitment, and leadership skills.
• Experience working with and managing wholesale producers (MGAs) including binding authority oversight.
• Experience with both admitted and non-admitted products and strong Worker’s Compensation background.
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary to understand and advance a positive workplace culture and create a challenging and rewarding work environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• This individual will be based out of our California Western Regional Office.
Experience Requirement: 10+ years experience in the Property and Casualty Insurance Industry with strong knowledge of the California marketplace. Ideal candidate will have applicable management experience, ability to develop and maintain producer relationships, ability to effectively manage an underwriting department.
