Our client is a privately owned manufacturer of baked goods. The company has been in operation for more than 25 years and employs over 500 people.
Responsibilities
1) Develop new products in accordance with defined product development methodology
2) Identify cost-saving opportunities for the company and implement appropriate solutions
3) Evaluate new ingredients and materials for quality and cost reduction projects
4) Conduct laboratory, pilot and industrial tests at various plant locations
5) Perform/coordinate physicochemical, microbiological or sensory analyses of products manufactured and/or on prototypes developed and/or on new raw materials tested
6) Prepare new products manuals (code-books), which explains formulas to use, ingredients, technical specifications and process standards for all new products developed
7) Provide technical assistance to Operations in both cost improvement projects and routine troubleshooting
8) Establish and maintain effective relationships with his/her principal contacts such as Marketing, New Products Development, Quality Assurance, Operations, etc.
Requirements
1) BS in Food Sciences, Cereal Science, Chemical, or Food/Agricultural/Biological Engineering (MS in Food Science/related field or experience and training a plus)
2) Minimum 3 years of experience in R&D of foods or food analysis (bakery industry preferred) along with AIB training
3) Experience in working in the bench in lab to develop formula and product prototype and working in bakery to implement product production (formulating and/or troubleshooting experience a plus)
4) Knowledge of the baking process and the function of ingredients
5) Proven work record with demonstrated high levels of initiative and self-direction along with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
6) Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills
7) Superb project management skills with ability to prioritize multiple activities simultaneously
8) Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, MIPS, SACIP2 database and other software/applications)
9) Hands-on multi-tasker with the ability to be a self-starter
10) Willingness to travel as needed
