How to Add Value, Not Redundancy
by Bill Radin
Consider the following scenario. On Monday morning,
a candidate posts his resume on the Internet. Within
minutes, the resume is consumed by five different
recruiters, who immediately "submit" the resume to
the same company via e-mail attachment. The
question is: Which recruiter now has "ownership" of
the candidate?
None of them. Why? Because the sixth person to find
the candidate's resume happens to be the company's
own staff recruiter, who deliberately leaves his email
unopened. Since none of the "submitted" resumes
were under consideration...

Lunchtime Workout Works Wonders in the Office
|
|
11/11/2004 -- Here is a great reminder from
www.onrec.com (an online recruiting magazine from
the UK):
A stress-busting lunchtime workout would help
employees perform better in the workplace,
according
to a nation-wide survey of businesses by Croner, one
of the UK's leading providers of business information
and advice.
The online poll found that 69 percent of HR
professionals believe providing exercise facilities at
work or helping with gym costs would boost
productivity and morale.
Croner says the results are encouraging to employers
faced with driving productivity, if they are prepared
to offer exercise facilities. But conversely, the
company is advising them that a culture of long
hours
and skipping lunch breaks, which leaves little time for
exercise, could actually be making UK workers less
productive.
Fitness experts agree that working out can help
boost energy levels, and in the long-term contribute
to being fitter, healthier and happier.
But, with a quarter of all UK employees working more

Ask Miss J -- Fun & Advice
|
|
Click on Miss J's photo (to the left) to email your
recruitment questions and problems to her!
Dear Miss J,
I loved your column last month and had questions,
continuing on the dating theme.
So I have qualified that this person is going be the
RIGHT one. I am ready for that first date, and just
like on many first dates, I am probably going to sit
there (too quietly) while my 'date' goes on and on
and on. The only time I am going to get to open my
mouth is to gulp air and chug wine nervously. I know
what you are going to say: "You need to get the
client to talk and learn about himself." (do you
mean you want the client to learn about his own
needs while he is talking to you, or do you mean that
you need to get the client to talk so YOU can learn
about him?) Agreed, but I need to ask the odd
question or two before being escorted out the door
don't I? How do I get the most out of a meeting, get
all the information I want, and still get that second
date?
Signed,
Speechless in Spokane, WA
