By Mark Berger of the Fordyce Letter
and Ken Smith of HireAbility

Do you spend too much time and money on entering candidate data into your applicant tracking or human resources management system? Did you know that HireAbility's automatic resume processing technology is an integral part of many applicant tracking systems in use today? In this article, published in the Fordyce Letter, the premier information source for the staffing industry, HireAbility's Ken Smith speaks about the issues and advantages of this time-saving technology.

An excerpt: Product features, accuracy, prices, and ease-of-integration vary widely from one vendor to the next. Some applications claim to parse, but really do nothing more than put all of the text in a single field or, perhaps, parse contact information. Surprisingly, some of the affordable and lesser-known vendors have the superior solutions. To help you evaluate your options, try our list of the top issues to consider in choosing a parser...

Dear Miss J:

I love my job and am always excited at the prospect of gaining a new client. So I thought I would write and ask for your advice.

I currently have a job req for that elusive purple squirrel or in my case Indricotherium that extinct, hornless rhinoceros with relatively long legs, who is a whiz at Java, will move to Bismarck, North Dakota from Florida in January for a 2 month contract at $20.00 an hour! But hey it's for a client that I really, really want to get into - they have a cool big shiny name and everything! They even reply to my emails two weeks after I send resumes - they are really cool. What really excites me is that they said they were going to get back to me with a decision within the next three weeks. I think I am on to a winner here.

So how do I go about playing the successful paleontologist/recruiter and be able to hunt these rare creatures down and impress my client?

Delighted from Desdemona, TX

Dear Delighted:

Hey Texan, hold yer horses! Let's take a long hard look at them-thar jobs y'all are talkin' about (pause for cringe).

We are going to sit down quietly and talk about qualification. When we talk about job reqs, if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's probably a waste of your time. So let's break down this scenario and pick over it, vulture-style...
