Greetings from Andrew Andrew Stock

After 3 ½ years of involvement in the development of this newsletter, I'm pleased to welcome you to this month's issue of Recruiter News.  In this issue, you'll find more of the valuable product reviews and industry tips that have helped this newsletter grow from a few hundred subscribers at its inception to a current list of 40,000 subscribers today.

I'd like to acknowledge the many independent contributors who review and report on the myriad of recruiting tools and software available on the market and help guide us on which of those products we should offer to our own recruiter network under the member discount program.  It is only with their support and contributions that we are able to ensure that you, our readers, are offered the most up to date knowledge, training and advice every month.

Best of luck to you in all your recruiting endeavors!

I am happy to report to the Hireability newsletter readers on the newly released Platinum Recruiter from infoGIST. This is a great program that goes a long way toward making our job of locating resumes of passive and active candidates for our open assignments a lot easier and more productive. This product offers a simple interface that easily accepts keywords and other criteria of your choice and searches literally hundreds of sites for resumes.

As of this writing, this product searches over 230 free resume banks, 150(+) web search engines, 10 of the largest web communities/ISP's, and 90(+) colleges and universities. It can also search over 230 pay resume sites if you have an account with them. All you do is set it up once and include that search type in your project. A neat feature that the competitors don't offer is your ability to use the software to search your local pc files as well. You can search any documents contained in resume or other directories on your hard drive. There is also the ability to interface with a number of the leading ATS vendor products to search your own candidate database at the same time. There is also a nice feature that allows you to perform a "flip search" or link search for resumes using several search engines.

infoGIST also offers a great component for research and competitive intelligence. It offers another area where you can search for corporate/company information, patent and trademark databases, and other business related archives for keywords.

Ask Danny! According to Danny Logo

Danny,

An account executive we had recruited for a tough role was perfect. At the final interview, with a psychologist they use for a one-hour phone consultation, our candidate disclosed that he had left his company for seven months, after college graduation, to go into the construction business, and then returned. He has only worked for one company, four years fulltime while a full-time student, and now he has been there another three years. I called him. He was not looking, but really wants this job now. The hiring manager is also interested in him. But the president of the company feels that the candidate lied by signing his application without disclosing the fact that he had left his current employer - which was a misrepresentation of his service. They were even more upset that I didn't know this and that the candidate didn't share this with me. I explained that because he voluntarily left and rejoined, he did not think about it as part of his career history, but the president feels it is an ethical issue. This is a company where I have placed several senior folks, including the hiring manager, and don't know how to turn the president around. The job has been open for three months and ethics are a key part of the company culture. Any ideas? Help!!

smoothieFrom the Desk of Just J!

Dear Just J,
What's your favorite Springtime refreshment?

- Wonderin' in Portsmouth, NH

Dear Wonderin',
Funny you should ask. I just whipped it up for myself last night. Are you spying on me? This is a special receipe for kids and adults of all ages. Of course, adults can make their own "creative" modifications, if they wish!

Here it is (eh, hem, drum roll, please):

The Spring Fever

What you'll need:
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz mango syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz apple juice
  • 2 oz blood orange juice
What you do:
  1. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a collins glass half-filled with crushed ice.
So, open the windows, let the fresh air in, take a sip, and ENJOY!

To Spring!

Just J.
